Oct 20 update: Dot Earth Defender has been broken for a while, due to NYTimes blog format changes. We do hope the NYTimes management will see fit to re-accommodate D.E.D.
Dot Earth Defender is a script you can use to filter and reformat the comments on the NYTimes blog Dot Earth; it also works, with a reduced feature set, on other NYTimes blogs.
The script’s home page – feature list, versions available, a link to the fine manual & to some testimonials – is at http://warming101.com/dotearth.
hey anna
i got it up and running (just had to read the directions, duh?!?!)
Question for you: I was used to the old defender where all of the deniers were shrunk…Is there a way to shrink all of Kim’s comment, for example, at one time..rather than one by one?
thanks so much!
guido
Yes indeed, Mr. Guido.
Do you have v3.0? I just put it up an hour or 2 ago.
On the D.E. post page, above the comments, there’s a button that says “Show my Dot Earth Defender Settings” – click on it, & in there are instructions on how to change them.
namely, Tools – Greasemonkey – User Script Commands …
and in there I *think* it will ask you, straight out, first thing, if you want to filter out the anti-science folks.
let me know if you have any trouble.
thanks for being an early adopter!
Anna
I’d said
“I *think* it will ask you, straight out, first thing, if you want to filter out the anti-science folks.”
it didn’t, but 3.0.1 does.
(if it doesn’t, i’d like to know about it)
Not exactly a replacement, but getting there:

Thanks DE’er for taking this on.
